How to Install WordPress on GoDaddy (Step by Step with Images)

  • Written by

In this tutorial, I will show you how to install and uninstall WordPress on GoDaddy and I will explain all the settings and what do they mean.

With the one-click install, GoDaddy has you can install WordPress literally in seconds.

So, let's begin.

First, you need to have a GoDaddy hosting plan and you need a domain pointing to this hosting. The good news is that you can buy a GoDaddy plan for as low as £1/m with this discount link.

If your domain is properly pointed to your hosting account, you should see this screen when you visit your domain:

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 1

In this tutorial, I will use the domain ahosting.co (as you can see in the browser)

Next, go to GoDaddy home screen and log into your account.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 2

When you click on your username(the top right corner) a mega menu will open. Click on the Manage hosting link to go to your hosting account settings.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 3

Once you are there, click on the hosting account you want to install the WordPress to. In our case, ahosting.co

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 4

This will open your hosting account control panel where you can adjust the settings of your project. To install WordPress click on the Open link next to Installatron app under Tools section.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 5

This will open the GoDaddy Installatron app which is a one-click installer of the different applications GoDaddy supports. It is very similar to the Softaculous app on cPanel.

Scroll down and you will see the WordPress icon (where the red arrow is). Click on this icon that will lead you to the WordPress app screen.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 6

Here you can go directly to the button on the right - Install this application

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 7

This will open the WordPress install wizard where you have to make several choices before the installation.

Let me explain each option with the number beside it:

1. Domain - select the domain name you want to install the WordPress on.

2. Directory - this is the path where the WordPress will be installed. In this case, I have selected ahosting.co/blog which will install the app on ahosting.co/blog. If you want to install it on the root domain e.g ahosting.co you need to leave the directory field empty.

3. Select the latest WordPress version available.

4. Select the language for the install, English by default.

5. Select I accept (otherwise you can not install it)

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 8

When you scroll down there are more options. I will explain each one with the number beside it

1. I suggest that you select auto updates. This will update your WordPress automatically and is the safest way to go since your site will not be open to vulnerabilities found in the oldest version and will always be up to date. This is especially true if you are not logging into your site daily. On the downside, this can break your site if some of the plugins you use are not compatible with the latest version. This is why I always suggest that you make a backup.

2. Same as 1 but for the plugins. I like the auto update option to be on.

3. Like 1 and 2 but for the themes - also on.

4. Choose the first option - to create a backup and automatically restore it if the update fails. This is a good option to keep your site safe.

5. Choose and admin name. GoDaddy already has a random handle for you but you can always change it to something you like. Never use admin as the default username though. It is a security measure.

6. Choose a strong password or generate one from the button on the right. Make sure to remember it or type it down because you will need it later when logging to WordPress admin panel.

7. Fill in an email where you would like to receive the notification for your new WordPress site.

8. Type in the title of your site here. You can always change it later.

9. This is the website tagline that will appear under the Title. You can leave that empty or type a slogan for your blog.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 9

And a few more settings left before we launch the install

1. Choose do not enable two-factor authentication (you can do that later but it is not necessary if you have chosen a different username than admin and a strong password).

2. Keep this to yes, limit failed login attempts. This is a security feature that prevents bots from guessing your admin password and brute force their way into your site.

3. This should be set to No. You can enable the multisite later when the install is done if you need this option.

4. You can leave this to Automatically. GoDaddy will set up all the other settings by default and you don't need to worry about it

Now when ready you can finally click on the Install button in the bottom right corner. This should start the WordPress install process.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 10

This screen is the installation progress bar. It is usually done for less than a minute.

When it finishes, go to your domain and the path you have installed WordPress to and you should see the default WordPress theme screen.

To log in into your new site type in the path and /wp-admin at the end. In our case, ahosting.co/blog/wp-admin will be the URL where the WordPress dashboard is.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 11

How to uninstall WordPress on GoDaddy?

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 12

Now that we have installed WordPress if for some reason you want to uninstall it, GoDaddy has a very fast and clean option directly from the hosting control panel.

Go again to Installatron and under My Applications, you will see your WordPress app with the related information. In the top right corner you will see an X icon and when you hover it says Uninstall. Click on it and this will delete your WordPress install, the files and the database with just one click.

Install WordPress to GoDaddy 13

This is how you can install and uninstall WordPress on GoDaddy with just a few clicks and in less than 5 minutes.

GoDaddy is a great option if you are on a budget or you just begin. However, if you need a more powerful WordPress hosting when your site grows, make sure to check our article on the Best WordPress hosting companies in the UK. In the modern web, every millisecond of your site performance counts. It depends on your website structure, but from tests performed by CloudFlare and LoadImpact, your site can benefit from 20% to 200%+ increase in speed from switching to the new HTTP/2 protocol. This test illustrates the difference in speed when loading a page with multiple requests.

HTTP/2 is a binary protocol that uses only a single connection per server. It delivers a faster TLS performance, supports greater security and simplifies your web apps. It is an excellent solution for the most sites and CMS like WordPress. If you want to speed up your site further, we got 33 more tips here.

You will not benefit from HTTP/2 if your web app mostly serves large, downloadable files or media streams. In this case, you probably don’t want TLS, and multiplexing doesn’t provide any benefit when only one stream is in use.

SSD vs HDD for hosting and how it affects your site speed

How important is IOPS for web hosting?

Web hosting performance can be measured by anyone of several metrics - total disk space and bandwidth allowance perhaps being the most common examples.

This is a useful approach as it helps to define the boundaries you'll be working in as a hosting customer, but they don't provide information about how quickly you can perform a particular task or the overall speed and responsiveness you experience. For this, we'll need to focus more on the hardware specifications and management of the hosting server itself.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 to feature 12MP camera with f/2.2 aperture

xioami mi max 2 camera specs

Xiaomi will be soon releasing the second generation of the Mi Max series of phablets. The 6.44-inch phablet is rumored to be named Mi Max 2 and said to be powered by a 5,000 mAh battery. The latest news regarding the Mi Max 2 reports a slight improvement on the photography features of the upcoming phablet. According to the latest news, Mi Max 2 will be downgraded in photography terms because it will be having a f/2.2 aperture lens camera, instead of a f/2.0 featured on the first generation of Mi Max

Mi Max 2 will reportedly be equipped with a 12MP 5-element lens camera with f/2.2 aperture lens for shooting images at a maximum resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels. Noting that Mi Max had a 16MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture for recording 4K videos, 4K video recording is expected to be continued with the Mi Max 2 but the quality may not be the same. The same source also doubts the possibility of Xiaomi continuing the 644-inch display, instead of that, they claim about Xiaomi reducing the screen for additional battery life.

Mi Max 2 is said to be running the newly-introduced Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and have 4 gigs of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage. The operating system will be Android 7.1 Nougat. Mi Max 2 was expected for release during the same day Xiaomi launched Mi 6, something that did not happen. It is clear that Xiaomi wasn't even planning for an April release for its phablet. Acknowledging that Mi Max launched in May last year, the release of the second generation is not too far.

How to find a cheap web hosting in the UK that can be trusted?

This is one of the most common questions we got from our visitors. In the past, it was really hard to find a web hosting plan under 3£/m that will be reliable. With the growing competition and the advance of the technology, now it is much easier to find a budget web hosting company that can be trusted for as low as 0,69£/m.

When searching for a cheap web hosting, here are a few important tips.

  • Check if they have a money back guarantee. This is very important since we will show you how to test your web hosting account and see if it is good.
  • Check for what period is this price available, do not buy hosting plans for more than 24 months.
  • Choose a local UK web host - content delivery is faster and dealing with customer support is usually much easier.
  • Try to get your web hosting plan with a reputable company that has a name in the business and has been around for a while (at least 5 years).

How to choose a reliable UK wordpress host?

  • Written by
  • Last modified on Thursday, 25 October 2018 10:58

There are thousands of web hosting solutions and most of them are able to host WordPress. WordPress is just a PHP platform that uses MySQL or MariaDB database to store the data. If the hosting service meets the minimum requirements to run the latest version of WordPress (as of today 12.02.2017):

  • PHP version 7 or greater
  • MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.0 or greater
  • HTTPS support
  • The mod_rewrite Apache module

You can go with them. To find this out, just browse trough their hosting plans and check the features or drop them an email.

Your Wordpress blog is like a tree tho, so it needs the right soil to grow. Based on our experience with hosting web sites for more than 15 years, here are the most important criteria you should consider before buying a web hosting service for your blog.

First, make sure it is a reputable company that provides hosting for the UK. This is where your audience is and you want your WordPress content to be delivers as fast as possible. That is why see if the company got a datacenter in UK or nearby. Also most of the UK hosting companies got inhouse tech support team that will help you move and install your blog and will be in your time zone. Also if they have SSD drives for the MySQL database is a big advantage since your database queries will load much faster.

Price and bandwidth. When you begin, make sure the price does not extend 5GBP/month and if they give you 5GB of traffic a month, it will be enough for more than 10000 visitors. This is just to be sure you are not paying extra for something that you do not need. Make sure tho that the company has other plans so when your blog grows, you can easily upgrade to another plan.

Security. See if the hosting provider have some isolation of the different WordPress accounts and the databases. Hosting is more secure when PHP applications, like WordPress, are run using your account’s username instead of the server’s default shared username. The most common way nowadays for hosting companies to do this is using suPHP. Just ask your potential host if they run suPHP or something similar.

WordPress optimized. A lot of the web hosting companies have made it easier for WordPress blogs to be run and managed by having a specific tools in the control panel like 1 click WordPress install, layered caching, auto updates, controlling your blog from a command line, updating your plugins and so on that will make it so much easier for you to manage your blog.

Any reputable UK web hosting that meets the above criteria will do for your WordPress blog, site or shop. Based on our experience we can recommend as WordPress specific UK web hosting companies Siteground and Godaddy. For more details read our reviews on Siteground and Godaddy and if you have any other suggetions or questions, post them in the comments below. And you can also check our the full list of the best 5 WordPress hosting reviews here.

Separate Domain and Hosting - UK Hosting Tips Part 1

  • Written by
  • Last modified on Wednesday, 17 October 2018 10:02

Edit: here is our indepth domain buying guide that can give you detailed information on domain buying and domain registrars.

Domain names don’t have to be registered with your hosting company.

Don’t take this the wrong way, this isn't implying that your current web host is not trustable. It’s more about finding a dependable and trustworthy registrar right from the start. After all, your domain name is your online identity, the most expensive and irreplaceable asset while hosting services are just there to accommodate your website.

A lot of people would register their domains with the same hosting company for the sake of convenience, you can manage the domain and the hosting with one login and the support staff of the hosting company will make sure everything is configured the right way.

Here are the reasons tho that we would recommend that you keep your domain and hosting accounts separate:

- with the right register you can store all your domains on one place and manage the DNS records faster

- if you for some reason get mad at your current hosting provider, you will want to move to another hosting. If your domain is in a separate register, you just have to change the DNS records. If you have it with the hosting, you will have much more trouble and it will slow down the process of moving, since you will have to transfer the domain too.

- enhanced security. If your hosting account is hacked, the hackers can transfer your domain too and it will take a long time to prove you are the rightful owner, in which time the site will not operate and you will lose money and credibility.

So we recommend if you decide to buy a domain, do to GoDaddy, they are a register and with a coupon code you can buy a .com domain for as low as 2$ a year and register your site with Siteground - they are an outstanding web hosting provider for the UK area. You can also read our reviews about them: Godaddy UK Hosting review and Siteround UK hosting review.

The new .uk top level domain launches in June 2014

  • Written by
  • Last modified on Wednesday, 17 October 2018 09:44

Nominet is prepared to launch the new .UK TLD in June 2014. They claim it will boost the business in the UK and will make the domain names shorter, more focused on the business and easier to remember. They claim 84% of the people in the UK consider buying and looking for information from .co.uk more reliable. However, since already 93% of the UK businesses use .co.uk, this means that for them it will be an additional cost. If you own the .co.uk you would buy the .uk because you don't want it to be bought by your competitors. On global scale, this means £50 million per year in additional costs for the UK business. However we recommend that you go to your favorite register and pre-order your .uk domain name. Our choice for .uk registrar is names.co.uk

The launch of the new top level domain .UK is scheduled for 08:00hrs on 10 June 2014. You can pre-order it now or you can think about it and do it later, since the reservation period for existing customers who already have a .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, .net.uk, .ltd.uk or .plc.uk runs up until 07:59hrs on 10 June 2019. This means that if you own any of the other domains now, you have 5 years registration right to get the .UK name as well and then it will be available for the public.

How the .uk reservation works

Here is an example. If all of the other TLDs name are free, then on 10 June 2014 you can purchase the .UK domain. If someone owns example.org.uk then he has the right to purchase example.uk for 5 years. If example.org.uk and example.co.uk are both taken, the reservation right go for the example.co.uk current owner. On this link you can check the reservation rights for a .uk domain

How much will the .uk cost?

From Nominet they say the wholesale price will be the same as the .co.uk domains: £3.50 per year for single year registrations, £5.00 for two year registrations and £2.50 per year thereafter for multi-year registrations. However they use various registrars and the retail price may vary since it can be combined with another hosting service. When browsing online, we consider that a price of £5 for a .uk domain is reasonable.

What is hosting colocation?

What is colocation and is it for you?

Colocation is one of the recent tech terms that explained in simple words mean that you rent a space in a Colocation data center for your own server. This service is very close to the more widely known Dedicated server hosting. The difference between colocation and buying a Dedicated server from a hosting company is that in the colocation you own the hardware and you are responsible for the upgrades and maintenance. There is a difference in the price as well.

Is colocation for you? If you are just starting and your needs for bandwidth and space are not high, you should start with a shared hosting. It is managed by the hosting company, has support team that can help you with the setup and care about the hardware. The price is the best too. Shared hostings are good for up to 30k visitors per month tho, depending on your plan. We recommend Siteground and Tsohost as a very good shared hosting alternatives that will work for you.

If you have more traffic, you have large download files, videos, music etc. and you require more hard drive space and bandwidth, then the colocation hosting service is for you. You have to search for a colocation data center in your area, buy the server equipment that you need (or rent it), rent a rack and you are good to go.

Colocation Pros and Cons

Data colocation can have a lot of benefits for you if you are small to medium business and you want to have to juice of a large scale IT department. It also has its disadvantages as you can see in the table below. See for yourself if this service is for you.

  • price is better than renting Dedicated server
  • lower network latency and higher bandwidth at a lower cost
  • higher reliability due to redundant systems
  • lockable rack cabinets or cages
  • physical security, fire protection, air conditioning and power generators
  • You own the hardware and software, so you can handle upgrades much faster and on demand
  • network connectivity—either in a 'house blend', where the colo provider is a customer of carriers, and connects their clients to their own router for access to multiple carriers, or as direct 'cross-connect' access to the routers of the carriers themselves, or both
  • real-time live monitoring of all these functions for failures
  • Colocation center can be hard to find, especially if you are not in a big city
  • It needs to be close since you have to travel to the physical location to maintain the server or upgrade. (or you have to buy maintenance from the center at an additional cost)
  • You need technical knowledge to upgrade the hardware, software and maintain the server
  • The fluctuating prices. If you exceed your monthly bandwidth you can have a very large bill at the end of the month so check the terms and conditions carefully.

Conclusions: Colocation is a great service if you need it. The major types of businesses that can benefit from colocation are Web commerce companies, Major enterprises, Telecommunication companies, E-commerce sites with a lot of visitors.

If you need to just manage a blog, simple CMS, display site or sell a few products, colocation is not for you. Keep with the shared web hosting since it will offer you better support and price. Here are our reviews of the best shared web hostings in the UK.

Website hosting company The GoDaddy Group Inc is preparing for a moment run at initial public offering (IPO), relating to a couple familiar with all the matter, as the 2014 tech IPO pipeline keeps growing.

GoDaddy, the online world domain name registrar and web host known for its racy advertisements, would join a number of high-profile tech names anticipated to go general public this present year in the wake of Twitter Inc's successful introduction. They include Candy Crush developer King Digital, and cloud services providers container and Dropbox.

The business is within the process of picking underwriters for its IPO, among the two resources stated on condition of privacy.

GoDaddy had been not instantly readily available for comment.

GoDaddy had filed to get general public in 2006 but had been advised during the time that it would be necessary to just take a 50 per cent haircut - a portion that is subtracted through the par worth of possessions that are being used as collateral - on its IPO.

The organization as an alternative decided to pull its filing, citing bad market circumstances.

The business, established in 1997, had been eventually acquired by an exclusive equity consortium led by KKR

Other exclusive equity purchasers included Technology Crossover Ventures.

GoDaddy, which offers website domain name brands, is famous for airing bawdy commercials with scantily clad women for the previous decade during the Super Bowl.

The Wall Street Journal first reported on the programs.
